"SELF-ESTEEM” LYRICS
from: Christine P GraySelf Esteem’s lyrics tells of how a low perception of self can put one in a losing position. That even in a emotionally abusive relationship, this paralyzing psychological behavior would keep a person from letting go. Making the person centered on clinging on to a dysfunctional relationship and just being thankful at being in one instead of valuing his or her dignity and fight for what he or she deserves.
The lyrics of the song is as follows:
SELF-ESTEEM Lyrics
(Artist: “The Offspring”)
I wrote her off for the tenth time today
And practice all the things I would say
But she came over
I lost my nerve
I took her back and made her dessert
Now I know I’m being used
That’s okay man cause I like the abuse
I know she’s playing with me
That’s okay cause I got no self esteem
We make plans to go out at night
I wait till two then I turn out the light
All this rejection’s got me so low
If she keeps it up I just might tell her no
Chorus
When she is saying that she wants only me
Then I wonder why she sleeps with my friends
When she’s saying that I’m like a disease
Then I wonder how much more I can spend
Well I guess I should speak up for myself
But I really think it’s better this way
The more you suffer
The more it shows you really care
Right? yeah yeah yeah
Now I’ll relate this little bit
That happens more than I’d like to admit
Late at night she knocks on my door
Drunk again and looking to score
Now I know I should say no
But that is kind of hard when she’s ready to go
I may be dumb
But I’m not a dweeb
I’m just a sucker with no self esteem
Chorus
When she’s saying that she wants only me
Then I wonder why she sleeps with my friends
When she’s saying that I’m like a disease
Then I wonder how much more I can spend
Well I guess I should speak up for myself
But I really think it’s better this way
The more you suffer
The more it shows you really care
Right? yeah yeah yeah
The punk rock group from Orange County, California’s “The Offpsring” has sold over 32 million albums worldwide. Their music is a mixture of ska, grunge and heavy metal. They broke through the music scene with their album “Smash” which also made a mark for having the most number of copies sold by an independent label.
Produced by Epitaph Records, “Smash” sold a total of eight million copies and was pushed to fame by the hit singles “Come and Play”, Gotta Get Away” and “Self Esteem”. The band cites their main influences as Black Flag, Descendants, Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, TSOL and Social Distortion.
The band was founded by “Dexter” Bryan Holland and Greg Kriesel in 1984. The two met in their high school cross-country team. Together with the school janitor, Kevin “Noodle” Wasserman, and without a permanent drummer, they formed the Band “Manic Subcidal”. It was not until 1987 that they have called themselves “The Offspring”.
Currently, the band is composed of Dexter Holland on vocals and rhythm guitar, Greg Kriesel or “Greg K” on bass guitar, “Noodle” Wasserman on lead guitar and Atom Willard on drums.
